Jule Koenneke

Policy Advisor

Jule Koenneke is a Policy Advisor in E3G’s Geopolitics, Diplomacy and Security team. She works on understanding the geopolitical landscape for climate action and informing diplomatic strategies to accelerate global climate ambition. Her areas of expertise include German climate foreign policy, the emerging European Green Deal diplomacy and the climate security nexus.

E3G’s Climate Diplomacy programme focuses on how to construct high leverage political interventions which can shape transformational international outcomes. Jule’s work focuses on delivering cutting-edge political analysis and devising strategies to foster greater global cooperation on climate action and mobilising governments and NGOs to deliver them. She is also an Associate Researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).

Before joining E3G, Jule worked on international climate policy in GIZ’s Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement. Prior to GIZ, she contributed to the efforts of various organizations including the German Federal Foreign Office, Forum Transregionale Studien, Körber Foundation and the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). Jule was President of Polis180 e.V., a Berlin-based Thinktank for Foreign and European Affairs from 2018-2020 and a Member of the Executive Board from 2016-2018.

Jule holds a MA in Political Science from the University of Potsdam. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations and English from University of Würzburg, which included a year abroad at Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico.
