Johannes Schroeten is a Policy Advisor at E3G, working on Sustainable Finance in the EU.

Johannes leads E3G`s sustainable finance work in Germany. As part of the E3G’s EU team, he is also covering parts of the EU Sustainable Finance Agenda. He focuses in particular on the regulatory aspects of a sustainability-driven financial system and the role of public investment in financing the climate transformation. Johannes is also engaging with stakeholders in central and eastern Europe to strengthen the topic of sustainable finance in the region. Previously, Johannes was part of E3G’s public banks team and still has a secret passion for the crucial role of public financial institutions in implementing climate policies.

Prior to joining E3G, Johannes worked for GIZ’s Climate Finance Readiness Programme, focusing on the Green Climate Fund, national climate finance capacity building and private sector engagement. Johannes also has experience in ESG research and green banking after working briefly for Germany’s oldest sustainable bank, the GLS Bank.

Johannes holds a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University and an MSc in Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment from UCL. He also studied for a semester at the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
