It is sometimes argued that the urgency of the European housing crisis means that delivering homes with a low carbon footprint comes with delay and costs that we cannot afford. The reality is different. European stakeholders are showing what is possible when it comes to the delivery of affordable homes in line with planetary boundaries.

Background

From local government leaders to national development banks and from real estate developers to social housing providers – we are seeing innovation showing what can be done from the ground up to deliver the homes we need.

Ahead of the publication of the European Affordable Housing Plan, we invite policymakers and practitioners from the housing and finance sectors to join us for a showcase of perspectives from financial institutions, private developers, housing cooperatives and city officials who have taken on that challenge.

This builds on E3G’s case studies from Poland and Denmark on financing sustainable and affordable housing.

  • Eamon Ryan, Chair of the European Commission’s Housing Advisory Board
