To mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, the UK and UN will host the Climate Ambition Summit on Saturday 12th December. World leaders will gather to announce commitments to tackle climate change. These will include tougher national emissions reduction targets, finance to accelerate the transition, and plans to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Speaking in advance of the Summit, Alex Scott, Senior Policy Advisor at E3G, commented:
“The Climate Ambition Summit on 12th December is the biggest test for global climate action this year. The EU, UK, China and scores of other countries are set to make fresh commitments to tackle climate change. While this marks the unstoppable transition kickstarted by the Paris Agreement, world leaders still need to come forward with plans putting climate at the heart of our recovery from COVID-19. Doing so will lay the foundations for success at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow next year”.
E3G will be following the Summit virtually, providing running commentary on Twitter and with media.
