Bringing Londoners together for a week-long programme of climate action.
The first-ever London Climate Action Week, a partnership between the Mayor of London and E3G, is taking place from July 1-8th 2019. We wanted to explain why it’s come about and share some of what’s happening, so you can speak to the people involved and attend any of the events.
London financed the industrial revolution. Now it has the potential to not only fund but drive the solutions to prevent dangerous climate change. Home to world leaders in climate policy and law, green finance, diplomacy and the media, the week is all about London doing what it does best: creating connection. The aim is to build meaningful interactions between sectors, and between institutions and the public, so we’re not just working in our own climate bubbles but sharing and collaborating to make practical differences to people’s everyday lives. Protestors have injected fresh energy into the climate movement. Let’s make sure we’re responding to this with powerful and joined-up action across issues of investment, health and urban infrastructure, as well as food, fashion and sport.
With over 100 events taking place during the week, highlights include:
- The signature Green Finance Summit organised by the City of London marking the launch of the new UK Green Finance Institute
- Three conferences on green cities organised by Climate Innovation Forum, HSBC and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
- The first London Climate Frontiers Forum organised by E3G
- The opening night of an opera, ‘Noye’s Fludde’ by the ENO
- A conference on climate justice and the courts organised by Globe Legislators and the UK Supreme Court
- The first Climate Risk Summit organised by the Economist
- A Health and Climate Change Conference organised by the Wellcome Trust
- A Climate Diplomacy Day organised by Chatham House
- The Ashden Sustainable Energy Awards
- Convening of major UK cultural institutions in the Culture Declares Assembly
- A Green Shabbat organised by the Eco-Synagogue

I’m proud to introduce London’s first Climate Action Week bringing together people of all ages with business, cultural and political leaders to highlight our climate crisis and discuss solutions to it. I’m doing everything in my power to address the climate emergency we are facing and help London achieve our zero carbon goals rapidly. London is already leading the way in green finance and innovation and I’ve ensured London was one of the first global cities to publish a 1.5 degree compatible plan and put us on a pathway to zero carbon, but I want much more to happen, much faster. I hope our Climate Action Week will help lobby Government to step up and take real action on the climate crisis.

London financed the creation of the climate problem in the 19th century so it is only right that it should become the global hub for delivering the solutions in the 21st century. We have been astonished by the response we have had to this idea from well beyond the usual suspects to include community and cultural organisations, faith groups, and many others.
