Powering Past Coal Alliance at COP24

The Powering Past Coal Alliance is a coalition of national and sub-national governments, businesses and organisations working to advance the transition away from unabated coal power generation.

One year ago, governments from around the world joined Canada and the United Kingdom at COP23 for the launch of the Powering Past Coal Alliance. Since then, the Alliance has grown to 75 members—and momentum continues to build.

By joining the Alliance, governments and organizations have committed to taking one of the most impactful actions towards meeting the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement: phasing out unabated coal-fired electricity and transitioning to clean energy.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Alliance’s launch, Canada, the United Kingdom and E3G are proud to host the Accelerating the Global Coal Transition event at COP24.

The event will be an opportunity for the Alliance to come together to discuss ongoing efforts to phase out coal, celebrate progress to date, and share experiences with existing members and other interested jurisdictions.

This side event is part of a broader “Coal Free Day” taking place at the United Kingdom Pavilion, where progress on the coal phase-out will be showcased, along with exhibits and presentations from different actors involved in the transition to clean energy.

You can register for the event on the Powering Past Coal Alliance website here.
