Following an extensive selection process, the E3G Board has appointed Karla Hill as E3G’s first Chief Programme Officer, taking effect on 1 July 2025.
We congratulate Karla on her appointment which will critically strengthen our ability to deliver E3G’s mission. E3G is an independent think tank, with a global footprint, working to deliver a safe climate for all.
The new role of Chief Programme Officer (CPO) is a critical appointment for E3G’s leadership and management at this point in our development. It is focused on supporting effective “One E3G” working and impact across 145 staff in 5 offices and a global network of associates and partnerships. The CPO’s role will span all E3G programmes, communications, and business development, and serves as deputy to the CEO, Nick Mabey.
Karla Hill has held senior management and leadership roles for more than 15 years, joining E3G in late 2020 as Associate Director. At E3G Karla has led the strategic development, delivery, and launch of E3G’s new political economy and strategic intelligence capabilities, building a diverse international team. She delivered E3G’s inaugural flagship State of Climate Politics Forum in 2024 succeeded by this year’s successful second edition. In the governance space, she established E3G’s major partnership with the International Climate Councils Network (ICCN) with E3G appointed host of the secretariat in 2023. She has led the delivery of London Climate Action Week (LCAW) over 5 years, with the largest ever edition in 2025.
Previously, she was director of programmes at ClientEarth for more than a decade, leading innovation in the strategic public interest law field and taking the organisation from a new non-profit from start up to leading international legal charity. She started her career practising law in New Zealand and moved into policy, climate and sustainability in the UK. With combined 24 years’ professional experience, she brings both strong climate and legal skills and a strong understanding of institutional evolution and leadership.
The full E3G Board approved Karla’s appointment being particularly pleased to see an internal candidate succeed in such a strong external recruitment field noting this as an example of E3G’s commitment to staff development. Karla particularly stood out for her motivation, strong internal and external leadership skills and focus on learning and development.
The CPO position is part of the E3G Executive Team and a member of the E3G Board.
