The European Parliament today voted to ratify the Paris Agreement (610 for / 31 abstain / 38 against).
Once this is confirmed by EU Ministers who meet tomorrow morning (5th), the EU is set to deposit it’s instruments of ratification on Friday (7th). The EU’s ratification is likely to tip the 55% requirement for the Paris Agreement to come into force.

Nick Mabey, Chief Executive of E3G said:
“Today Europe's long-term investment in climate politics gets its reward. It is fitting that EU ratification will bring the Paris Agreement into force, as the EU has done more than anyone to build political support for truly global climate action.
Tomorrow Europe must turn to implementation, unite its citizens and build its economy within a secure low carbon society. The hard work starts now and so do the opportunities.”
