E3G ranked the seventh most globally influential environmental think tank in the 2020 Go To Global Think Tank Index Report. This is the fifth year running that E3G placed in the top-10 of this category.

E3G also ranked as a top energy and resource think tank for the second year in a row.

The Go To Global Think Tank Index Report is published by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. TTCSP examines the evolving role of public policy research organisations within governments and civil societies.

They work with leading scholars and practitioners, surveying over 1,796 peer institutions and expert panels from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines, to rank the world’s leading think tanks in specific categories.

According to the TTCSP, the top environment policy think tank category is dedicated to the leading environmental policy institutions of the global community.

The top think tanks in this category provide innovative research and strategic analyses on various environmental issues that are of significance on a global level. These think tanks excel in research, analysis, and public engagement on a wide range of policy issues with the aim of advancing debate, facilitating cooperation between relevant actors, maintaining public support and funding, and improving the overall quality of life in one of the relevant countries.

In 2020, E3G ranked seventh out of 807 think tanks invited to participate in this category and was also the highest-ranking UK institution.
