In this on-the-record briefing, leading E3G policy experts gave an insider view on what we will need to see at COP30 Belém. A Q&A session followed this on-the-record virtual briefing.

COP30 in Belém must be the turning point the world needs – doubling down on cooperation, accelerating action, building an era of delivery, and keeping the Paris temperature goals within reach. This is critical for global economic prosperity and growth as well as stability and security.

We will be looking for the signals that together, the world can act decisively to:

  1. Close the ambition gap on decarbonisation with a huge shift to delivery to bend the emissions curve and accelerate fossil fuel phase out.
  2. Close the ambition gap on finance via a clear and politically compelling Baku to Belém Roadmap that outlines how to reach the $1.3 trillion goal by 2035, bridging the finance gap through a wider range of sources.
  3. Close the ambition gap on resilience and adaptation – with adaptation goals prioritised alongside the urgent need for mitigation, as we see the costs of inaction rise, and growing existential and economic risk to countries around the world
  4. Close the credibility gap – strengthening governance and accountability, strengthening and reforming the Paris regime for delivery to secure forward progress to build our future together.
