Europe in the World
A sustainable world requires a rejuvenated Europe
The choices Europeans make have consequences beyond our geographical borders. If we want to stay secure and prosperous in the 21st century, we must learn to manage those consequences. Otherwise we shall find ourselves increasingly responding to their unpleasant effects.

It is around this view of Europe in the world that we must build a modern prospectus for Europe. We need to reflect this in our policies, legislation, the way we raise and spend money and, over time, in our notion of who we are as Europeans. We need a new sense of purpose for Europe as a driver in the global transition to sustainable development. We need to show how a reinvigorated European project of this kind can address the concerns of Europe’s citizens.
During the period January 2005 – June 2006 E3G has been undertaking an extensive set of activities to identify and open up avenues likely to be productive in building this new sense of purpose for Europe. Details of events undertaken and thinking generated are available in the related project pages.
The next stage of the project is now getting underway, and will see E3G working with others to align and animate networks of individuals and institutions in a position to leverage change across Europe.
The project is supported by the Italian Ministry for Environment and Territory.
