E3G ranked number one environment think tank in UK

E3G, the independent climate change think tank, has been ranked as the foremost environmental think tank in the UK. The index, published by the University of Pennsylvania, rates think tanks across the world according to the quality of their research and impact.

E3G has also been rated the second most influential environmental think in Europe and the sixth most influential in the world.

E3G has been pushed up to the top of the UK rankings for environmental think tanks as a result of E3G’s leading research and influence in energy policy, climate diplomacy and climate finance. E3G played a major role in analysing climate diplomacy in the lead up to the groundbreaking Paris Agreement and has conducted research backing the case for an end to unabated coal power in the UK, with the Government recently confirming it would be phased out by 2025. Other influential research by E3G has included a performance assessment of the Energy Union and developing the economic case for making energy efficiency an infrastructure priority.

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around the world. 6,500 Think Tanks were nominated for the rankings across all categories, which then have to pass three rounds of filtering from expert panels before the rankings are decided.

Nick Mabey, the Chief Executive of E3G said:

“We are very proud to be ranked the leading environmental think tank in the UK. To successfully combat climate change it is essential that civil society policy groups support Governments in developing the most effective solutions and hold them to account if they fail to do so.”
