Tom Jess is a policy advisor working on the sustainable finance programme with a focus on energy efficiency and the Capital Markets Union initiative. His research concentrates on how public and private finance sectors can work to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy in Europe.
Before joining E3G in September 2015, Tom undertook an MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College London, specialising in Energy Policy. During his time at Imperial, Tom built up knowledge on the low-carbon transition in Europe. His thesis took a novel approach to assess the resource-efficiency of the EU’s energy sector and in other work he explored the compatibility of large-scale renewable energy deployment with the formation of the Internal Energy Market. Tom also had a particular interest in the role and influence of environmental NGOs in governance.
Prior to this Tom worked in the Commercial Generation team at Good Energy, the first energy company to supply 100% renewable electricity, and was a volunteer for an environmental community group focused on energy efficiency based in Bristol. Tom also has a BSc in Geography from the University of Durham.
