Philipp Thaler joined the Brussels office of E3G as a Policy Advisor in 2016. An expert on EU energy policy and governance, Philipp promotes E3G’s messages to energy decision-makers and stakeholders. His current work focuses on the Energy Union and the role of cities in the energy transition.
Prior to joining E3G, Philipp gained 5 years experience as an energy consultant for EUtech Energie & Management and Siemens Germany, where he advised industrial clients on EU energy regulation and climate policies, energy efficiency measures and new opportunities in the liberalised European energy market. He also gained public sector experience in energy policy-making at the European Commission’s DG Energy and co-chaired the Energy Policy Research Group at Central European University in Budapest.
Philipp holds a PhD in Political Science from Central European University, an MSc in European Political Economy from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University. He has researched widely on energy policy, lectured at universities and conferences, and published his work in peer-reviewed journals.
