Izumi Kotani

Izumi Kotani is a Researcher for E3G’s Fossil Fuel Transition team. Her role focuses on supporting coal transition activities in Japan.

Izumi Kotani

Izumi carries out and communicates evidence-based research on coal-related developments in Japan relevant for coal transition projects. As part of this work, she builds and maintains internal and external partnerships.

Prior to joining E3G, Izumi carried out research on Japan and Germany’s nuclear energy policy and Japan’s energy transition driven by local renewable energy projects.

Izumi holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the Hertie School in Berlin, where she focused on Germany and the EU’s energy and climate policies. She also obtained a bachelor’s degree from International Christian University in Tokyo, focused on International Relations and Anthropology.

In her spare time, Izumi enjoys traveling as well as taking nature and street photography.
