E3G Senior Associate, Simon Skillings, gave evidence this week to the Energy and Climate Change select committee on the draft Energy Bill.
Significant analysis now supports the view that early decarbonisation of the power sector is critical if the EU is to efficiently achieve 2050 decarbonisation targets and this, in turn, requires action in three key areas:
1. Infrastructure
2. Efficiency
3. Market reform.
In light of these requirements, E3G has become closely involved with the electricity market reform (EMR) agenda. In particular, there are specific proposals for reform in the UK that will be significant in shaping the discussions emerging elsewhere in the EU and beyond. The attached papers contain some of E3G thinking in this area.
