Leadership and Linkages: The Political Economy of Climate Change

Over the last couple of days, Chatham House has been hosting a conference entitled “Climate Change: Politics versus Economics“.

Participants included Air Chief Marshall Sir Jock Stirrup, Chief of the Defence Staff, who gave a speech on the security implications of climate change; and from Dr. Per Stig Møller, Foreign Minister of Denmark who provided a keynote address .

Over at Global Dashboard, Alex Evans and David Steven have been live blogging the event, and included a review of Nick Mabey’s presentation entitled ”Leadership and Linkages: The Political Economy of Climate Change”.

The presentation sets out the two competing narratives of the costs of Climate Change before moving on to discuss the realities of political markets; the collective action dilemmas of climate geopolitics; the ways a possible global deal could fail; the importance of political framing; and the challenge of the economics of transformation.
