E3G Founding Director John Ashton was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours, for services to international climate change. He received the award from HRH Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, John said:
I am immensely proud to be receiving my CBE today, the first ever for work on international climate change.

E3G has been ranked 16th in the 2012 Top 70 Environment Think Tanks by the Pew Global Think Tank ratings.
This beats performance in 2011 when E3G ranked 24th. The findings are the result of an international survey of over 1,950 scholars, public and private donors, policy makers and journalists. In the UK E3G is rated as the 2nd best Environment Think Tank after Chatham House.
