E3G co-organises EU-Turkey energy event in Brussels with Climate Parliament and Desertec

On 22nd January, E3G is participating in an event entitled “Renewables in Turkey: refocusing EU-Turkey energy cooperation”. The event was co-organised by E3G alongside Climate Parliament and Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii), and with the support of Europacable.

Last year, the European Commission and the Turkish government announced enhanced cooperation between the EU and Turkey on energy issues. With demand for electricity in Turkey set to rise 6% per year for the next 10 years, it is essential that both regions seek to look beyond oil, coal and gas. An enhanced focus on renewables, energy efficiency and infrastructure is needed.

The event will be hosted by Sir Graham Watson MEP, Chairman of the Climate Parliament, and seeks to address two main questions:

What are the long term perspectives on the role of renewables and electricity infrastructure in the region?

How to make it happen and what is the role of regional cooperation on renewables and electricity infrastructure?
